I remain all but certain that comprehensive healthcare reform legislation will pass this spring. The New York Times isn’t sure, but Nancy Pelosi is. My money is on Pelosi. “ Every legislative vote is a heavy lift around here,” she told reporters earlier today. “You assume nothing.”

Do Democrats Face “Unmitigated Disaster” at the Polls if They Pass Reform?
Republicans continue to warn Democrats that if they pass health care reform, they will lose their seats in November. For what it’s worth, I believe that a fair number of incumbents (Republicans as well as Democrats) will lose their jobs in November because unemployment will remain high . In good times, Americans vote for the person they like: charisma...
What Does This Mean?
From Talking Points Memo: January 21, 11:34 a.m. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just told reporters that she does not believe she has enough votes in the House to pass the Senate health care reform bill as-is — at least not yet. “I don't see the votes for it at this time,” Pelosi said. “The members have been very clear in...

The Massachusetts’ Vote
I didn’t post about the vote earlier today, because I cannot begin to predict what will happen next. There are too many variables. At this point in the process, a few politicians can begin to make demands that could actually block any reform legislation this year. I still feel strongly that Congress should try to pass a bill, even if it is legislation...
A Little-Known Provision in Reform Legislation: Safety Net for Alzheimer’s Patients and Others Who Need Long Term Care
Last week, the New York Times asked me to write an opinion piece for its “Room for Debate” section. Here is the topic that the Times asked participants to discuss: “An article in the Times this week focuses on a 5,000-member clan in Colombia that has an unusually high incidence of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease . The Health Care Reform Reconciliation Bill
The House began its last step in the health reform legislative process early in the afternoon of Thursday, March 18, when it released HR 4872, the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010. As this year’s health reform legislation has gone, this is a slender bill, weighing in at 153 pages, of which 35 are dedicated to student...
HEH … PELOSI SAYS “NO” TO DOC FIX
Boy that quisling strategy really worked out well for the AMA! First, Harry Reid rams through a “doc fix” that does precisely the opposite of what was promised in return for the organization’s collaboration on Obamacare. Now, Nancy Pelosi is refusing to bring even that half measure up for a vote in the House: House Speaker Nancy...
VIDEO: ASSISTANT TO THE SPEAKER ADMITS HOUSE DEMS WILL USE UNCONSTITUTIONAL SLAUGHTER RULE TO PASS OBAMACARE
Democrat Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Assistant to the Speaker of the House, admitted on Fox News Sunday that the Democrats will actually use the Slaughter Rule to pass Obamacare without requiring a House vote: Let’s make it clear, we’re gonna have an up or down vote, whether it’s up or down for the Senate bill or  Read More →
PELOSI: OBAMACARE MUST BE PASSED “SO THAT YOU CAN FIND OUT WHAT’S IN IT”
During a speech to the 2010 Legislative Conference for National Association of Counties, Nancy Pelosi provided what started off as the usual talking points about Obamacare: You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other.
